God’s divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life. (2 Peter 1:3)
Emphasizing spirituality in therapy connects us to God’s love, increases our sense of self-worth, deepens life’s meaning and purpose, and better equips us to experience our greatest potential. I am passionate about helping couples and individuals live a more fulfilling life by integrating spiritual direction with effective therapy.
Prior to becoming a marriage and family therapist intern, I served as a senior pastor for over ten years. During this time, I encountered many Christians who were devoted in their faith, yet struggled with emotional, relational and spiritual issues. This experience made me keenly aware of the need to integrate sound biblical principles with psychological interventions.
Drawing from my theological and psychological training, I designed Spiritually Focused Therapy (SFT), a therapeutic approach that utilizes the power of one’s own spirituality to produce lasting emotional, psychological and behavioral changes. SFT is based on the truth that we are spiritual beings as well as physical beings, and that our reality is much bigger than just the physical life we are leading.
I believe Christian spirituality contains the greatest power for life-change. Our faith in Jesus shifts our vision from focusing our own shortcomings and weakness and points us toward a power much greater than anything we possess. Our faith also reminds us that we are not alone and do not have to accomplish everything on our own.
Emphasizing spirituality in therapy connects us to God’s love, increases our sense of self-worth, deepens life’s meaning and purpose, and better equips us to experience our greatest potential.
Wherever you are at spiritually, I can help you to connect with the power to live a more fulfilling life by integrating spiritual direction with effective therapy. Accessing this power begins with the recognition that God has your best in mind. And if the all-powerful God of the universe is for you, then who can be against you? If God has given us his Son, why won’t he also give us all the help we need? (Rom 8:31, 32)
God’s divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life. (2 Peter 1:3) I would be honored to help you begin your journey toward the living the life you desire.
